An Open Invitation

This morning I had a unusually slow start to the day and was feeling a little groggy. But as I walked to the shop wearing a vintage plaid trench coat, a stranger stopped me and told me she liked the coat. This kind remark and quick smile really made my morning better. A few kind words go a long way. It was very sweet and I thought a while about the kindness of strangers. (Although not in a Blanche DuBois way...)

Then it got me thinking about sharing. Here at Found we love sharing our ideas, inspirations and finds. It's interesting and such a pleasure when a customer comes in wearing a dress (or necklace, sweater, et al) from Found or mentions a piece of furniture they've picked up or had upholstered/painted and let us know the direction in which they've taken it.

If you would like to share with us a photo of a FOUND 'find' you love and cannot live without, send it to us in a Facebook message here or email us at foundon8th@att.net! Our goal is to compile a small collection of our stylish friends in action.

In the meantime you can visit us at the shop and see the new midcentury pieces we've been working on, the newly-reupholstered pieces, new vintage (as always), and today's new stock of chunky, slouchy sweaters.

Cheers! Cheese!

Branching Out

source: Jill Crawford
So...

Lately I have been distracted by the concept of white paint - which, for this girl, is a little out of the norm. Me and white walls have not always been BFFs. But I recently bought an old farmhouse that had been renovated and painted throughout with the Benjamin Moore shade, 'Simply White'. Time/energy/motivation have created a situation where I have had to live with all white walls long enough that they began to grow on me - and that has been unexpected.

I love warm, earthy tones and tend to turn whatever my environment is into an earthy cocoon. But I am branching out into the next design phase of my journey and learning to accept the whiteness of my walls.

I'm finding out there are some things I really like about the whiteness around me. It feel clean and fresh; newer, I suppose. It provides a great canvas to showcase special furniture or artwork and it allows you to go in a lot of different directions with design. My current favorite is sort of a white-washed midcentury look. I have been finding some great midcentury pieces for the shop and adding a smooth coat of a low gloss paint. The finished look is clean and lovely as it allows the cool design of the piece to show through.

Your house does not have to be midcentury modern for pieces like this to blend in. I love the look of a sleek midcentury piece paired with a rustic counterpart. That is a great juxtaposition which helps soften the more defined lines.

Fall Style Inspiration: Ali MacGraw

American actress Ali MacGraw modeled in the 1960s before becoming a popular actress, most famously in the 1970 tear-jerker romance Love Story. But what many (myself included) think of first is that classic all-American-girl style.

With her personal style and her work with Harper's Bazaar and Vogue she set trends for years, keeping it simple yet fun. (i.e. a crocheted cap at the Oscars)

Her striking looks in the 60s & 70s translate well to 2013. Pretty sexy, if you ask me.
See for yourself.

My Own Best Customer

I recently moved - actually in August. But I still feel like I'm not settled. And when you work in design it would seem like second nature to have your own home looking like a magazine, which reminds me of a friend I had years ago. She was married to a great hairstylist and always complained that her kids were always the last ones to get their hair cut. And after working pretty much every day doing design, either in the shop or for clients, I go home at night and just want to think about something else. Which brings me to this point:

I never really thought about how helpful it is to have a designer until I wished I had my own! Just trying to find the time to complete your own vision can be overwhelming. Sometimes trying to just have a vision for your own space can be a big enough challenge.

But that is what we offer here at FOUND - a solution to those design challenges. Bring us your vision or let us create one for you - email us at foundon8th@att.net for rates and info.
