Updates!

Dunegrass Vintage Branches Off, Cottage Roses in Full Bloom

Hello, friends! It's been a busy few weeks, with a lot of changes and shifts and questions regarding the store goings on. Here are answers to those questions we've received:

Found's old Facebook page will be closed tomorrow, and the lovely ladies of Cottage Roses (the store formerly known as Found) will continue to share their custom and vintage goods soley on their page HERE.

The store's Instagram account is in the hands Cottage Roses, while Dunegrass Vintage will share its retro goodness via this account. Because...

Dunegrass Vintage is leaving the store! This was a difficult decision but with amazing opportunities in my other work which I love and could never pass up, it's time for me to branch off in another direction with Dunegrass. I will continue dealing in vintage goods, with the inventory being sold in different locations and possibly online. More on this to come.

This spring brought many changes to Found. With the new ownership, new name. And now I move forward and into the next chapter in several ways.

It is what I was born for -
to look, to listen,
to lose myself
inside this soft world -
to instruct myself
over and over...

A Message From Kristen

As the coordinator of FOUND's social media for the past year, I wanted to send a quick note to our online followers.

The change here at FOUND has been serendipitous. There couldn't be a better team to take the reigns of ownership. Kathy, Nicole, and Andrea of Cottage Roses are creative and passionate about what they do. I'm sure you will fall in love with what they've done and their plans for this Downtown Holland shop (like being open Mondays 10-5:30!). You can reach them directly through FOUND's Facebook page, where they've begun posting photos of their awesome work! They will be handling the page moving forward. I will continue spreading the Instagram love.

I've had the priviledge of working for a fabulous businesswoman, designer, and friend, Susan Langejans. You can still reach Susan for custom design work such as upholstery, paint, and interiors, via her direct line: (616) 836-7585.

As for our vintage clothing and accesories, we will continue carrying Dunegrass Vintage and blending it with new, vintage-inspired pieces. From '50s cocktail dresses to '90s flannel, I'll keep stocking unique & wearable clothing for you, our beloved customers. We've got big love for you.

See you at the shop.

Cheers,
Kristen

A Message From Susan

Tomorrow begins a new day in the future of FOUND.

As I reflect on the last 5+ years of owning what has become a bit of a landmark in downtown Holland, I can only observe that the saying "timing is everything" is a perfect way to describe this transition.

Over the years at FOUND I have had many opportunities to not only enjoy the retail aspect of my business but also the ability to work with many customers on lakefront and cottage design. This led to an interest in managing lakeshore vacation rentals, which required becoming a licensed realtor (I did so this past winter), which led to my partnership with BVW Property Management developing their lakeshore vacation rental homes. Once the busy season of summer began I realized if tried managing both businesses I was going to end up in the looney bin. Enter the wonderful ladies of Cottage Roses.

These women and I were already sharing our fabulous custom furniture builder, Russ Merrill, and I was buying from their store to finish design projects when I didn't have what I needed in my own inventory. Then it occurred to me that they were the perfect fit for taking over FOUND. After some quick negotiations, the deal was done and now that I see the changes they are making and their plans for the future I couldn't be happier! They have a great eye, wonderful new additions, 2 locations (Cottage Roses is in Zeeland) and all the great style you have come to love at FOUND.

As for me, I am busy busy with my new venture. However, I will continue to be available through FOUND for custom design and upholstery. I can be reached through my direct number: (616) 836-7585.

Here is wishing the best for FOUND's future, curated by the enthusiasm and energy the ladies of Cottage Roses are bringing to the table. Please visit both stores this weekend and see the exciting changes!

Best Wishes,
Susan Langejans

What We're Loving: Natural Accessories

New arrivals for spring from FOUND, top right necklaces via Vaux Vintage

Spring is here. (Remember, "April showers...") Tulip Time begins soon and in Holland this marks the beginning of warm days and cool nights along the lake. We're on board with the natural, boho looks - especially after being bundled up for months on end.

From 1970s interiors (macramé, shag, bold prints) to natural accessories (wooden beads, clunky heels, woven bags), we are all about it.

Russ Merrill, Craftsman Extraordinaire

We have been keeping the lid on some exciting news for a while but we can finally let the cat out of the bag.

Russ Merrill, furniture craftsman from Another Man's Treasure, is now part of our team at FOUND! Russ is the creative and industrious guy who builds some of our fabulous custom pieces, such as barnwood headboards, farmhouse tables, great repurposed industrial pieces, and more - pretty much anything you might dream up. He also scouts out great vintage finds and repurposes them with his own touch.

We are super excited to have Russ on board. We love seeing what he creates and now you can have custom pieces built right here at FOUND. We post photos of his work when we can but he works quickly so stop in and have a look around!

We're happy to answer any questions or give quotes on cusotm pieces via foundon8th@att.net.

Around Here Lately

The sun is shining, the snow is mostly gone. We've been hit with a welcome dose of inspiration and the store is fully loaded with new pieces custom made from salvage, customized antlers, macrame plant holders, starburst mirrors, newly reupholstered mid century furniture, and more. It's been a fun few weeks getting these things together.

New vintage-inspired clothing has arrived and we're adding in true vintage spring clothing. The weather in west Michigan been so touch and go that it's been difficult for a lot of us to transition our wardrobe. Your closet may want spring but just walking to the car can be contrary to that desire. Layers have been key. But now we're seeing skirts, dresses, and short sleeves! Kinda makes your heart sing because of what it implies - warm lakeshore weather.

Next month marks our fifth anniversary and we're excited to celebrate. Details coming soon. In the meantime watch our FB page for info on upcoming creative events like this one. Cheers!

The Big Red Pen

The big red pen is coming out this week to mark down prices on, well, many things. We are giving our store another facelift soon (spring cleaning, anyone?) and making room for the new goods coming in. If you've been eyeing a particular chair or table, dress or necklace, stop in this week to get your bargain-loving little hands on it before it's gone!

We're getting pumped to celebrate the fresh look with an open house, so stay tuned.

Style Inspiration: The Like

The Like are a California retro-rock band of vintage and thrift store-obsessed rock royalty babes with a penchant for bouffants, bangs, and saddle shoes. Think: Beatlemania + Blythe doll + Nancy Sinatra. It's no wonder they're favorites of style beacons like Refinery29 and BFF Alexa Chung.

Their mod look - influenced by other stylish musicians from The Ronettes and Carol Kaye to Dressy Bessy and April March - pairs with their 60s sound. Eyeing pics of these women is like flipping through a lookbook of our favorite It Girl styles. Is it miniskirt season yet?

Spring Style Inspiration

Some shots of spring/transitional style we love.

Via Ashley Ording (a.k.a. Fancy Fine), Cali Vintage, Refinery29, SFStyle, Life Magazine circa 1969, Urban Weeds

We're getting psyched to put out the new and vintage spring clothing and accessories and layering them for the transitional weather (whenever that's supposed to happen...) Vintage cardigan over a retro-style house dress, a mod shift dress over leggings, a modern top paired with a flowy skirt, a miniskirt and a chunky sweater... What are your favorite fair-weather styles?

Whiskey sours, anyone?

Whiskey sours bring thoughts of summer. And in the midst of this polar vortex, sometimes you just need to escape into dreams drinks of summer.

The shop is currently stocked with some amazing, colorful vintage barware and I'm using these two sources of inspiration to make a cocktail of sorts for you. Here are a couple shots from our store, and you can find HERE a simple recipe for sour mix via A Beautiful Mess. I've got a vintage airtight bottle in the fridge at home of this.

Mix, shake, drink to summer. It will be here eventually.

Style Inspiration: Selina Kyle's Apartment

If you remember Tim Burton's 1992 film Batman Returns starring Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle (a.k.a. Catwoman) then you may remember how instensely awesome her apartment was. With its Barbie-pink walls, mid century furniture, and various kitschy decor the place looked like Catwoman was ever-ready to have John Waters over for pink margaritas. It's personally my favorite thing about the flick.

But this is a double dose of inspiration. Her clothes were pretty sweet, too. Everyone remembers the supersexy black uniform which she sowed together in an excited, villainous frenzy. But her other outfits before and after her bad girl transformation were wonderfully and sometimes cartoonishly noir, with structured 1940s cuts and other vintage geometric elements. And wild, wild hair.
I'd love to have her wardrobe and apartment. Just for a day.

Style Inspiration: Marianne Faithfull

British singer, actress, model, muse, notorious It Girl Marianne Faithfull has lived the kind of life some writers strive to dream up. Throughout her tumultuous and glamourous years she helped set the standard for the swinging London look. She did it well. Really well.

We've been stocking up on vintage for the spring and are excited for the opportunity to break into mini and shift dresses and other sweet fair-weather gear. Winter is here for now so in the meantime give this a listen/watch. Cheers.
